Finally it was time!! . . . . to bring home our little red västgöta girl. The 6 hour trip back home to Malmö was comfortable and went without any hic ups. The little girl slept the whole trip - more or less. It didn’t seem to concern her at all that she had just left mum and siblings. She made herself comfortable as soon as we got into the car. At home she went around investigating, said hello to the cat; had some food then she went into one of the baskets and fell asleep. Not the slightest sign of being unsettled. An incredible cool little girl who seemed to think it was totally obvious that her home is here with us. Birka is a little hurricane who is gentle and happy in her disposition but can show temperament when the boys in the area are too eager in their courting of her. She is very responsive and it is seldom that you need to raise your voice at her to stop what she is doing and come. Maybe the exception is when she got some rabbits in sight, then she might get an acute onset hearing loss but most of the time she stops pretty quickly and returns. Her big passion in life is bathing . . . . .she simply can not walk pass a waterhole without getting in, it is just impossible. She is not swimming around or anything (even if she loves it when we throw a stick so she can swim out to get it) she just walks out until the water is deep enough and only her head and top of her back is visible. Sometimes her hind legs float up behind her and she is standing on just her front legs but she stays put with squinting eyes totally blissful, it looks absolutely hilarious.
Birka is herding tested with good herding instincts
